How to choose a cinema screening with audio description

Check the resource available for the film and screening, prepare what you will use and agree with the cinema how to deal with a failure.

To learn how to choose a cinema screening with audio description, confirm the film, its version and the resource offered at that time. Then check what you need to prepare and how to obtain support at the chosen cinema.

Do not treat a chain's name, a programme symbol or the existence of an app as sufficient confirmation. A useful answer identifies the content and explains how you can follow it at that screening.

This guide organizes planning questions. It does not certify cinemas or equipment, test apps or interpret rights. Provider examples and earlier screenings have limited scope.

1. Identify the exact film and screening

Record the title, cinema, date, time and film version. When comparing options, keep a separate line for each screening rather than only saving the cinema's name. This helps avoid answers about another showing.

Cinemark's help centre says the film synopsis identifies the compatible app. Use this as an example of where to look, not as a guarantee for other chains or every screening.

If information is missing, ask customer service before deciding. An unanswered question should remain marked as outstanding; do not replace it with an assumption based on another visit.

  • Does the stated resource match the title and version I plan to watch?
  • Has this cinema confirmed the specific screening or only described the chain?
  • If the programme changes, where can I find current information and confirm support?

2. Ask how the audio description will be delivered

Ask whether audio description is delivered through an app, cinema equipment or the screening's room audio. Also confirm that the advertised resource is actually audio description rather than a generic accessibility notice.

In a December 2025 account, ANCINE described one special screening with audio description through the room's sound system and another offering an app. This is a historical format example, not the current programme.

The format affects planning: who provides the device, how you will hear the audio and who can help. Request instructions from the screening's organizer; do not improvise settings based on another system.

  • Do I need my phone or must I request equipment?
  • Are headphones provided, or should I bring mine? What instructions does the organizer offer?
  • Is the audio individual or played to the whole room at this screening?
  • Who can clarify an incompatibility before I leave home?

3. Prepare the app and content before leaving

Cinemark's accessibility page advises installing the indicated app, downloading the matching content before the screening and bringing headphones when needed. The chain says it does not supply a phone or Wi-Fi for this use.

Confirm the instructions that apply to your cinema directly. Do not generalize the procedure to another cinema, app or device. If preparation is difficult, contact official support before travelling.

Test what you can check beforehand: opening the app, finding the right title and accessing instructions with your usual tools. An opening test does not prove synchronization will work in the auditorium.

Have an alternative way to consult your ticket and customer-service replies. If another person's help is needed for a step, agree this in advance; do not leave all preparation until the screening starts.

4. Confirm equipment collection, support and return

If staff say equipment is available, ask how to request it and where to collect it. Distinguish availability from a request: sending a request does not yet mean the item is reserved for you.

Ask staff to explain use, collection conditions and return. Consult documents directly with the provider rather than relying on this guide to interpret terms, responsibilities or commercial rules.

Avoid a universal rule for how early to arrive. Ask the cinema how much time it recommends for tickets, instructions and resource preparation at that screening, considering your intended route.

  • Is my request confirmed for this time, and how can I identify that confirmation?
  • Where do I collect the resource, and who can help if the service point is closed?
  • Is there an alternative if equipment is unavailable or fails?
  • How and where do I return the device after the film?

5. Organize the route and check the resource on arrival

Beyond the audio, consider the route to the auditorium and your chosen place. Ask about entry, moving around and directions according to your needs. Audio description does not automatically answer these questions.

Save the cinema's name, screening identification and contact channel. On arrival, present the agreed request and, where possible, ask about the resource before taking your seat.

Agree with companions how to request assistance without losing contact with the group. You do not need to share a diagnosis to ask a specific question about directions, communication or operation.

6. Agree on an alternative for failures and changes

Ask what to do if content is missing, audio does not follow the film or equipment fails. Contact the responsible staff and describe what happened, without assuming a technical fix you do not know.

Decide which conditions are essential and which unanswered questions prevent a choice. Another screening or date may be an alternative, but consider it confirmed only after receiving the relevant information.

After the visit, record what worked and what needed clarification. Use the experience to prepare new questions; do not turn positive or negative service into a claim about every cinema in the chain.

Checklist before confirming

  • Title, version, cinema, date and time recorded.
  • Audio description confirmed for the chosen screening.
  • Resource format and provider instructions identified.
  • App and content prepared where applicable.
  • Headphones, device or equipment collection clarified.
  • Ticket and staff confirmation available to consult.
  • Route to the auditorium and required assistance agreed.
  • Failure contact and alternative plan saved.

Frequently asked questions

Does a subtitled film also have audio description?

Do not use one indication to confirm another. Ask explicitly about audio description and how it will be delivered at your chosen screening and film version.

Which app should I install?

Consult the film's official information and confirm with the cinema. Cinemark's help centre advises looking in the synopsis; this is not a general compatibility guarantee for every title or device.

Do I need a phone at every audio-described screening?

Ask about the screening format. ANCINE documented room-audio and app options at a 2025 activity. That record does not confirm the same offer exists at your screening today.

What if I cannot prepare the resource?

Contact official support and the cinema before visiting. Request instructions and confirm an alternative. An app's existence does not prove a screening will meet your needs without that confirmation.
